2024 Climate Week

Bill McKibben is a highly influential environmentalist, author, and activist, widely recognized for writing The End of Nature (1989), considered the first book on climate change for a general audience. With over 20 books to his name and regular contributions to major publications, McKibben’s work consistently addresses environmental issues. His extensive accolades include the Gandhi Peace Prize, the Right Livelihood Award, and honorary degrees from numerous universities, solidifying his status as a leading global thinker. He currently leads Third Act, an organization mobilizing individuals over 60 for climate and justice initiatives.

A pioneering figure in climate activism, McKibben co-founded 350.org, the first global grassroots climate campaign, which orchestrated protests worldwide. He was instrumental in significant environmental movements, including the opposition to major oil pipeline projects and spearheading the fossil fuel divestment campaign—the largest anti-corporate campaign in history, influencing over $40 trillion in endowments.
